The Army Barracks in Fremantle, which is home to the Army Museum, is a heritage building of historical significance. As a result of this, BKAYDesign's task included clearing from the gallery all materials that were not part of the original interior, including non structural walls and a false ceiling.
Extensive metal framing was then constructed on which to mount the armour panels that create a false interior wall. This allowed us to protect the original walls while providing the opportunity to recess the display cabinets. The camouflage patterns were then hand painted and finished with over 18,000 rivets.
Onto the armour panels were mounted over 72 information and image panels, some housing TVs for audio visual displays. All of the content was carefully researched, developed and selected in conjunction with the museum staff and volunteers. This process involved extensive image restoration.
